Happy Halloween!

You would think I'd have a big grand post for you. I'd think so too, in a normal year. This year has been anything but normal though, so here's what you get.

Go read a book!

Welcome to my first real blog post! I spent a lot of time tonight going through links that I had saved for my blog, organizing them, and trying to decide what my first post should be about. (I also spend a lot of time waiting for the computer to load, but that's another story all together.) I finally decided on books. Books are some of my favorite things, so it seemed like a very good starting point. Also, as the weather gets colder and the days get shorter, I find myself wanting to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book more often.

Here are a few books that I've been eying -

Every now and then a book comes out that illuminates a part of the world that was not only previously hidden but which could not even be imagined. Such a work is the Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopaedia. In these photos and tattoos, which I guarantee you are like nothing you have ever seen before, are reflected the horrors of Russia written on the skins of criminals.

Fascinating anthropological, photo-journal examination of the symbolism and code representations of Russian prison tattoos.

Would go rather nicely with the first book, don't you think? Of course, I love anything to do with symbolism, so I may be a bit biased.

They say you can't judge a book by its cover—but its title can tell you more than you ever needed to know!

Amazing, illuminating, and gut-bustingly funny, Bizarre Books is the wonderfully twisted product of more than two decades of determined searching in forgotten corners of out-of-the-way libraries and through the literary detritus of eclectic private collections. It is certain to delight every true fan of trivia and the patently absurd.

Step inside Michael Bell's antiquarian bookshop, stocked with rare and fine collectibles of infinite variety, from Book of Blank Maps, With Instructions, to Autobiography of the Best Abused Man in the World. By perusing these curious works from bygone times, inquiring readers will be rewarded with instruction on such rarely understood pursuits as Single-Handed Cruising and Girls' Interests. A treasure trove of the best of bookmaking, here is a library of laughs.

Stunning photographs of space.

Photographs of animals on clean white space. Beautiful!

Tells the charming story of a family that gets a penguin in the mail every day for a year. Children learn math & the evils of global warming. Genius!

An excellent and fun book that would make an great gift for someone you know who is learning French. Do you know anyone learning French? You do? Hmm... I bet they'd enjoy this book! (Was that a shameless plug on my part? Yeah, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway!)

I'm back!

What's in a name? To those of you who may get the reference, I love you. I love you very much. In fact, I think that we should get married and run away to a tropical island together. For the rest (most) of you, you should read xkcd. You'll like it, honest. In fact, you'll probably love it!

I'm going to try to post at least once a week. Cool links, interesting stuff, and the occasional update on my life. Enjoy!
